It's not just about Motorcycles and Roads!

Indochina Adventure has received thousands of good feedback and praise from our clients for our service so far.

Are you ready to leave the beaten path behind and take on one of Vietnam’s most spectacular motorbike routes – Cao Bang? Exploring this region on two wheels offers a true sense of freedom, immersing you in untouched natural beauty and giving you a deeper connection to the daily lives of local ethnic communities. Let’s take a look at the indispensable sights and the crucial advice when taking Cao Bang motorbike tours with Indochina Adventure.

Why ride a motorbike in Cao Bang?

There’s no better way to uncover Cao Bang’s raw beauty than by motorbike. Unlike confined car tours or crowded buses, two wheels grant you the freedom to truly embrace the land, weaving through misty mountain passes, bumping along secluded dirt trails, and discovering hidden corners where the rhythm of local life unfolds undisturbed. Besides, you can freely pause to capture a sunrise over rippling rice terraces or simply soak in the silence of untouched valleys for an hour without being time-consuming, allowing you to link with Cao Bang’s nature and culture.

For the best experience, set out on the Cao Bang motorbike tour during autumn months (September to November) or spring (from February to April), when the weather is cool, dry, and perfect for outdoor exploration.

Must-see places in Cao Bang by motorbike

Exploring Cao Bang by motorbike lets you reach places that tours and buses often skip. Below are the top spots worth adding to your Cao Bang motorbike tour itinerary:

Ban Gioc Waterfall

As Vietnam’s largest waterfall, Ban Gioc is a breathtaking Cao Bang motorcycle tour highlight. Located near the Chinese border, its mighty cascade creates a misty wonderland surrounded by limestone cliffs. Riding a motorbike here lets you take in the dramatic scenery at your own pace, stopping for local food or a quiet photo stop along the way.

If you want to explore Ban Gioc Waterfall fully, safely, and without the stress of navigating unfamiliar roads, check out the tour from Indochina Adventure. With years of experience organizing trips across Northeast Vietnam, we clearly know the best times to avoid the crowds, the most photogenic spots, and the experiences you definitely don’t want to miss. All you need to bring is your adventurous spirit — we’ll take care of the rest. Have a look at the detailed itinerary and book your motorbike tour in Vietnam at Indochina Adventure. We’re always ready to accompany you on the way to Ban Gioc.

Ma Phuc Pass

Ma Phuc Pass is one of the most scenic and thrilling rides in northern Vietnam since located between two vertical limestone blocks, promising to bring riders an exciting Cao Bang motorcycle tour. From the top, you get panoramic views of the winding 7-storey road of Ma Phuc Pass, which looks like a giant python winding among the limestone blocks, bringing a sense of accomplishment after conquering its twists. Early morning rides are especially magical, with fog “dancing” over the peaks.

Thang Hen Lake

Situated within a cluster of 36 natural lakes at 1700 meters, Thang Hen Lake offers a peaceful break from the more rugged parts of your motorbike tour Cao Bang. The still, emerald-green water combined with the vast scenery of the mountains and forests creates a romantic setting you can’t take your eyes off. After arriving at Thang Hen Lake by motorbike, don’t forget to try activities like kayaking (or boating) and taking unique photos to have a complete trip.

Nguom Ngao Cave

Just a few kilometers from Ban Gioc, Nguom Ngao Cave is a limestone masterpiece stretching over two kilometers underground. When traveling here, you can admire the mysterious beauty inside the cave with layers of iridescent stalactites in many unique shapes, giving a feeling like entering another world. It’s an easy and rewarding stop on your Cao Bang motor tour.

Nghieu Son Linh

Nghieu Son Linh is a spiritual and lesser-known stop that few tourists visit, as it is tucked deep in the forest. Despite the changes over time, the landscape remains untouched, and the historical spirit of Nghieu Son Linh still echoes through the mountains. The road here is narrow and wild, perfect for those seeking raw adventure on their Cao Bang motorbike tours.

Pac Bo Historical Site

For history lovers, Pac Bo is a must. This location impresses travelers with its many rugged mountain ranges, waterfalls that seem to beckon and caress, and cool green bamboo groves that cover the entire sky. In addition to the beautiful natural scenery, riders can also visit many famous historical sites such as Lenin Stream, Karl Marx Mountain, President Ho Chi Minh Memorial, Pac Po Cave, etc.

Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda

Overlooking Ban Gioc Waterfall, Truc Lam Pagoda offers panoramic views and a sense of calm above the roar of the falls. Most riders stop here for a short break, light some incense, and enjoy the serene vibe before heading back into the wild mountain roads. From the pagoda grounds, you can look directly out over the main falls and capture some of the best panoramic photos of the trip, adding meaning to the Cao Bang motorbike tours.

Cao Bang Ancient Rock Village

Cao Bang’s ancient rock village is an ideal stop on a Cao Bang motorbike tour for those who want to slow down, connect with the culture, and enjoy something completely different from the usual tourist route. With over 400 years of history, this village welcomes motorbike travelers with its fresh mountain air, peaceful scenery, and charming stone-built homes of the Tay ethnic group. If you travel from Hanoi, take the Nhat Tan Bridge and National Highway 3 (QL3) for the perfect scenic drive that sets the tone for your adventure.

Local culture & offbeat experiences in Cao Bang motorbike tours

Joining Cao Bang motorbike tours isn’t just about chasing landscapes, but it’s a chance to connect with local life. Near Ban Gioc Waterfall, you’ll find welcoming homestays like Yen Nhi Homestay, Khuoi Ky Homestay, or Lan’s Homestay Ban Gioc, offering comfortable stays for around 200,000 VND per night. These spots let you sleep in traditional stilt houses and wake up to fresh mountain air.

Cao Bang is also rich in cultural experiences. Time your trip during the Long Tong Festival or the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Festival, and you’ll witness ethnic dances, traditional music, and local games that unite the community. Don’t leave without trying local dishes like steamed rice roll (banh cuon), braised pork belly (khau nhuc), or the unique agarwood fish (ca tram huong). Tips & packing essentials for Cao Bang motorbike tour

Before you hit the road, make sure your gear matches the ride. Here’s what you shouldn’t leave behind when joining Cao Bang motorcycle tours:

  • Check the weather and road conditions before your trip, as the mountain passes in Cao Bang can be foggy, muddy, or slippery after rain.
  • Bring your driver’s license (Vietnamese or international) and at least one form of ID. Without it, you can’t rent a motorbike legally and may be in trouble in case of checkpoints or emergencies.
  • Bring cash (Vietnamese dong) to cover food, fuel, and homestays for the whole route, especially when you travel to remote areas.
  • Pack smart and light, but remember the basics, such as gloves, sunglasses or clear riding glasses, bug spray, sunscreen, and basic medications.
  • Pack a tire patch kit, pressure gauge, flashlight, and phone power bank to save your ride.
  • Respect local culture wherever you stop. Besides, you should dress modestly in villages, ask before taking photos of locals, and learn a few polite Vietnamese words such as “Xin chao”, “Cam on”, “Tam biet” to better communicate with local people.

Is Cao Bang safe for first-time motorbike riders?

Cao Bang’s landscapes are stunning, but the ride can challenge first-timers. You may face steep mountain passes, narrow dirt tracks, and unpredictable weather, especially during the rainy season, requiring you to be steady on the wheel and technically prepared. Although not too dangerous, the transition can be stressful for those unfamiliar with the northern terrain. At this time, accompanying a local guide as Indochina Adventure will be a safer and more comfortable choice.
