Along the way, we will venture deeper into remote villages, where you can observe the culture, traditions, and daily life of ethnic communities. The ride takes you past endless paddy fields dotted with limestone karst formations, creating postcard-perfect scenery at every turn.
After lunch in Hoa Binh Province, we conquer Thung Khe Pass, one of North Vietnam’s most stunning mountain passes, before descending into the lush Mai Chau Valley. Dinner will feature traditional local cuisine, followed by a music performance where you can dance and share rice wine with the locals.

After bidding farewell to Mai Chau, we ride towards Moc Chau, a highland town known for its rolling tea plantations and Vietnam’s pioneering dairy industry. We will enjoy lunch here before continuing our adventure.
From Moc Chau, we take QL43 for about 10km, heading north to the Van Yen ferry to cross the Da River. The journey continues along winding roads until we reach QL37, then turns westwards into the Ta Xua Nature Reserve. Rising to 2,600 meters above sea level, Ta Xua Peak offers the feeling of riding above the clouds, rewarding you with views of misty mountains and oceanic clouds drifting over ridgelines.

We ride along winding roads toward Tu Le, navigating the mountains of the Northwest with picturesque views at every turn, where green valleys and high ridgelines accompany you throughout the day.
From Tu Le, we ascend the majestic Khau Pha Pass, one of Vietnam’s four legendary passes, famously known as the “Horn of the Sky.” From Khau Pha, the view opens to a sea of terraced rice fields stretching from mountaintops down to winding creeks, painting an unforgettable picture of Mu Cang Chai’s beauty.

In the morning, we ride toward the central Fansipan Mountain Range via Than Uyen town in Lai Chau Province. For those craving an extra adrenaline kick, a challenging back route with river crossings is available, letting you test your skills on rugged terrain before rejoining the main trail.
The majestic Hoang Lien Son mountain range will be our constant backdrop as we tackle the thrilling ascent from Binh Lu to O Quy Ho Pass. Sitting at over 2,000 meters above sea level, O Quy Ho offers panoramic views that stretch across miles of misty mountains, delivering breathtaking moments perfect for your dirtbike diaries.
After conquering the pass, we descend into the foggy Sa Pa Valley, a highland retreat near the Chinese border. In the early 20th century, the French chose Sapa as the summer capital of Northern Vietnam due to its cool climate and enchanting scenery.
After dinner, you will have free time to stroll around the town, explore local cafes, or simply soak in the crisp mountain air, recharging for another exhilarating riding day with the Indochina Adventure team.

The 20-minute cable car ride offers spectacular views of mist-covered mountains and valleys, with cloud seas rolling beneath your feet. From the Fansipan Peak, you can witness the entire Sapa region shrouded in mist while breathing in the crisp, cool air.
After lunch, the day is yours to explore. We recommend a visit to Cat Cat Village, where you can learn about the daily life and traditions of the local Hmong community, or ride 18km north of Sapa to explore hidden villages in the clouds. These isolated villages offer raw, authentic glimpses into highland culture and provide perfect photo opportunities with their terraced rice fields and rustic wooden homes.
In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and wander the misty streets of Sapa, soaking in the town's relaxed highland ambiance before preparing for your next riding day.

The road then winds along the Chinese border into Bac Ha, a stronghold of the Hmong people, where we’ll stop for lunch and recharge before the real adventure begins.
In the afternoon, prepare for one of the most challenging off-road sections of your Vietnam dirtbike tour. Leaving Bac Ha to the northeast, we tackle the rugged DT178, a demanding trail with sharp bends, rocky sections, and wild mountain scenery, testing your skill and focus at every turn. A highlight is the climb up to the summit of Kiou Leou Ti, where breathtaking views will remind you why you chose this ride.
The route continues through Xin Man and Hoang Su Phi, winding along narrow mountain roads with layered terraced rice fields cascading down deep valleys like an intricate painting crafted by nature and human hands. Every kilometer will test your endurance as you battle through mud, slippery rocks, and challenging water crossings—a true dirtbike adventure in Vietnam’s raw highlands.

Charge your phone fully today because you’ll be taking countless photos along the legendary Ha Giang Loop—an internationally renowned route for good reason. This day promises some of the most spectacular scenery on earth and is undoubtedly a highlight of your Vietnam dirtbike tour.
After breakfast, we obtain the necessary permits from Ha Giang’s Immigration Police, which allow us to ride legally through the border zones. We then embark on small, challenging mountain roads through the land known in local folklore as “where birds break their wings flying twice.” Alternating between the main road and rugged, winding tarmac sections, the Ha Giang Loop offers endless photo stops as we pass through villages nestled in the foothills where local ethnic groups live traditionally, often dressed in vibrant, colorful attire.
The ride culminates at Ma Pi Leng Pass, situated around 1,500 meters above sea level, with the poetic Nho Que River winding far below. Known as the King of Passes in Vietnam, Ma Pi Leng may be only 20 kilometers long, but every turn is an adrenaline surge for any rider, offering jaw-dropping views of towering limestone mountains and deep valleys.
At the foot of Ma Pi Leng Pass lies Meo Vac, a small Hmong town where we’ll settle for the night. Here, you’ll experience genuine highland hospitality as you share stories and a hearty local dinner at a cozy homestay, reflecting on a day filled with Vietnam’s most exhilarating riding experiences.

The ride begins with us navigating unpredictable dirt trails along road DT217 to Khau Vai, where instead of crossing on bamboo bridges, we take a bamboo raft ferry over the Nho Que River—an experience in itself. On the other side, we continue down rugged tracks toward Bao Lac, where we will stop for a hearty lunch in town before tackling the legendary Me Pia Pass.
Me Pia Pass is known for its dramatic shape, winding like a serpent with a steep gradient that forms 14 tight hairpin bends over just 2.5 kilometers. Riding through these sharp switchbacks, with limestone cliffs towering on either side, is guaranteed to get your adrenaline pumping while rewarding you with epic mountain scenery that makes every twist worth it.
After conquering Me Pia Pass, we continue our journey toward Ban Gioc Waterfall, the stunning natural borderline between Vietnam and China. The final stretch of the ride offers magnificent mountain views, lush green valleys, and the tranquil rhythm of local life in remote villages.
We arrive at your accommodation next to Ban Gioc Waterfall in the late afternoon, where you can relax, take in the roaring sounds of the falls, and prepare for a traditional dinner, capping off a day of exhilarating dirtbike exploration.

This route offers numerous opportunities to stop for photos and capture drone footage, showcasing the wild, untouched beauty of this remote region. The roads are a blend of muddy single tracks, winding mountain passes, and rocky trails that challenge your dirtbike skills while rewarding you with breathtaking scenery.
Arriving at Ba Be National Park in the afternoon, we swap our bikes for a short boat trip on Ba Be Lake, the world’s only freshwater karst lake. Drifting on the calm, emerald waters, surrounded by limestone cliffs and dense jungle, is the perfect way to unwind after days of riding.
If you’re up for it, take a refreshing swim in the lake, immersing yourself in the tranquility of nature while absorbing the serenity of this hidden paradise. After breakfast with your Tay host family, we hit the road early, riding through scenic mountain passes and remote countryside roads as we gradually leave the highlands behind. The morning ride offers captivating scenery, with layers of mist rising over rice paddies and rugged peaks, evoking the raw beauty that defines Northern Vietnam.
We stop in Thai Nguyen for lunch, where you can enjoy a well-earned break before continuing the final stretch towards Hanoi. As the Red River Delta approaches, the roads become busier.
