Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau
Your Northwest Vietnam dirtbike adventure kicks off with a morning meet-up with our local guide at your Hanoi hotel, followed by a clear briefing on dirtbike riding rules and signals for Vietnam’s roads. Once ready, we fire up our engines and head west, following quiet dyke roads to escape the city’s rush.
Mai Chau, often dubbed the “hidden sister of Sapa,” offers similar terraced valleys and misty mountains yet lies much closer to Hanoi. Our route winds through lush countryside, past emerald rice paddies, and beneath limestone karst cliffs, offering you the perfect introduction to Vietnam’s northwest.
After a local lunch in Hoa Binh Province, we conquer the Thung Khe Pass, known for its sweeping curves and spectacular mountain vistas, before descending into the tranquil Mai Chau valley. Here, you’ll ride deeper into off-the-map Thai villages, experiencing the rich culture and warm smiles of local families as they weave, farm, and live among the endless rice fields.
Your evening includes a traditional dinner featuring local specialties, followed by a warm welcome with a Thai cultural music performance, where you can dance, sample their homemade rice wine, and join in on local stories by the fire. Tonight, rest in a cozy Thai-style stilt house, listening to the soothing sounds of the valley as you prepare for the adventure ahead.

After a peaceful breakfast, you’ll have time to take a chill stroll through Mai Chau’s morning mist, where you’ll catch glimpses of women weaving on traditional looms beneath stilt houses and locals heading to the fields, roosters crowing in the distance.
We then fire up our dirtbikes and head toward Moc Chau, a highland town famous for its endless tea plantations and cool air. It’s a perfect place to stretch your legs, sip fresh tea, and enjoy a local lunch. Moc Chau’s landscape of rolling green hills, dairy farms, and fruit orchards paints a vibrant backdrop for your adventure photos.
After lunch, we continue along QL43 for around 10km before turning north toward the Van Yen ferry crossing on the Da River. This river crossing on your dirtbike will add a sense of raw adventure, giving you moments to breathe in the fresh mountain air and capture stunning shots.
From the river, we push onward to Ta Xua Nature Reserve, following the quiet and winding roads that lead through hills and valleys. As you ride higher, clouds begin to dance below you, unveiling the legendary “dinosaur’s backbone” ridge at Ta Xua Peak (2600m). It’s like riding into the sky, where waves of clouds roll beneath the ridges and sunlight cuts through misty layers.
Take your time here, letting the calm winds refresh you while you capture epic photographs. This is one of the highlights of your Northwest Vietnam dirtbike adventure, combining the thrill of the ride with the serene majesty of nature.

Day 3: Ta Xua – Mu Cang Chai
Fuel up with a hearty breakfast as we say goodbye to the sea of clouds in Ta Xua, kicking off another thrilling day of riding into the heart of Northwest Vietnam’s natural beauty.
Today’s route takes us along winding roads toward Tu Le, where mountains ripple into endless waves, offering cinematic views around every corner. The cool mountain air mixed with the earthy scent of rice paddies and forest trails makes every throttle twist feel alive.
From Tu Le, we ascend the legendary Khau Pha Pass—one of Vietnam’s four great mountain passes, famously known as the “Horn of the Sky.” This pass offers an exhilarating dirt bike experience, hugging sharp bends and cliff edges while panoramic views of cascading rice terraces and deep valleys stretch out below.
Beyond Khau Pha, the trail leads us into Mu Cang Chai, home to the iconic rice terraces recognized globally for their surreal beauty. These terraces coil around the slopes of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, part of the eastern Himalayan chain, showcasing the ancient engineering of local Hmong and Thai ethnic groups who have sculpted these mountainsides for centuries.
As you ride through this landscape, every moment feels like a living postcard, with opportunities to stop for photos of farmers tending fields, water buffalo plodding through terraces, and clouds drifting across the valley floor.
By late afternoon, we arrive in Mu Cang Chai town, where you’ll settle in with a local Thai family for a warm supper and cozy homestay experience. Share stories with your hosts and fellow riders while enjoying local specialties that capture the rich flavors of the region.
As the night falls over the terraced hills, you’ll rest up, knowing tomorrow’s dirtbike adventure promises even more epic riding through the highlands of Northwest Vietnam.

Day 4: Mu Cang Chai – Dien Bien Phu
Fuel up with breakfast in Mu Cang Chai, then rev your dirtbike as we set off toward one of Vietnam’s most historically significant destinations: Dien Bien Phu, the battlefield that changed the course of the First Indochina War.
We ride through a mesmerizing landscape of terraced rice fields coiling around the hills like emerald ribbons, passing Black Thai villages bustling with daily rhythms—women weaving baskets, children herding ducks, and elders smoking pipes under stilt houses.
Our dirtbike adventure winds up and down mountains, crossing the Da River at Muong La, where the air feels crisp and the views stretch endlessly into valleys framed by forested peaks. Every throttle twist reveals a new layer of the Northwest’s untamed beauty.
After a local lunch along the trail, we prepare to conquer the historic Pha Din Pass, known as one of the “Four Great Passes of Vietnam.” Sitting at 1,648 meters above sea level, Pha Din holds scars of history, with winding curves that once echoed with the thunder of artillery during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. Riding this pass is like traversing a living museum where the past whispers with each turn.
We carefully descend the pass, letting the calm wind rush past as we drop into Tuan Giao, leaving behind fields, rivers, and rugged switchbacks. From here, it’s a final stretch to Dien Bien Phu, where the mountains part to reveal a valley that once witnessed a pivotal battle, marking the end of French colonial rule in Indochina.
We arrive in Dien Bien Phu by late afternoon, where you’ll check into your accommodation and have a chance to wander around this historic town. You can visit the battlefield relics or simply unwind, reflecting on the power of this place and the miles you’ve conquered on your dirtbike through Vietnam’s Northwest highlands.

Day 5: Dien Bien Phu – Sapa
Today’s ride is a long haul, so fuel up with a hearty breakfast before we saddle up for one of the most epic days of your Northwest Vietnam dirtbike adventure.
We kick off by ascending the Xa Tong Pass, where the road carves through the highlands toward Muong Lay. This stretch is relatively easy, allowing you to relax into the rhythm of the ride as the mountains roll by and rivers glisten under the morning sun. We’ll stop for a local lunch to recharge before hitting the throttle once more.
From Muong Lay, the real adventure begins. We take on the sinuous trails toward Sin Ho, cutting through endless green tea hills and remote highland villages, where Hmong and Dao locals wave as you pass. The trail climbs gradually into the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, revealing layers of mountains that fade into mist and valleys dotted with terraced rice paddies.
Then comes the grand highlight: O Quy Ho Pass, one of Vietnam’s longest and most legendary passes, known as the “Gate of Heaven.” At over 2,000 meters above sea level, this pass is a dirtbiker’s dream, with sweeping curves, crisp mountain air, and clouds drifting so close you can almost touch them. Each turn offers a rush of adrenaline, testing your riding skills against a cinematic backdrop of rugged peaks and deep valleys.
As we descend the pass, the misty outlines of Sapa appear, welcoming us to the famed hill station once beloved by the French for its cool climate and stunning vistas.
We’ll arrive in Sapa by late afternoon, check into our hotel, and refresh after an unforgettable ride. After dinner, take time to wander the fog-kissed streets of Sapa, where the glow of lanterns lights up the mist and the scent of grilled street food drifts in the cool mountain air, marking the perfect close to a day that will live long in your riding memory.

Fuel up with breakfast in Sapa’s cool morning mist before we saddle up for a unique ride that blends rugged highland roads with a peaceful lakeside ending.
We roll downhill along twisting mountain roads from Sapa to Lao Cai City, where the Nam Thi River gently marks the border between Vietnam and China. Here, we’ll pause for a coffee on the riverbank, letting you sip your cup while gazing across into China, a rare moment to savor during your Vietnam dirtbike journey.
Afterward, we ride along Road 70, a scenic route shadowing rivers and valleys, before turning onto Road 152 to reach Luc Yen for lunch. The landscapes change from high mountain passes to rolling hills and scattered limestone formations, offering a more relaxed yet captivating ride.
Once recharged, we hop back on our iron horses and continue to Vu Linh Village, home to the Dzao ethnic minority, by the shores of Thac Ba Lake—Vietnam’s largest artificial lake. The final stretch takes us along quiet village roads where you’ll see tea hills and palm-lined paths leading down to the tranquil water.
Arriving at Ngoi Tu – Vu Linh around 4:00 PM, we’ll board a boat trip on Thac Ba Lake. As the sun casts golden light over thousands of islets, watch local villagers paddle wooden boats with effortless grace while you soak in the stillness of the water.
As evening falls, we gather for a flavorful dinner with your Dao hosts, renowned for their hospitality and legendary “Happy Water” (local rice wine). Expect a night of exotic local food, traditional dance, and laughter around the communal fire.

Day 7: Vu Linh – Hanoi
The final day of your Northwest Vietnam dirtbike adventure is deliberately slow, allowing you to soak in every last breath of mountain tranquility before returning to Hanoi’s rhythm.
You may wake up to the sounds of roosters crowing, ducks splashing in the pond, or children’s laughter drifting through the crisp morning air of Ngoi Tu Village. Enjoy a hearty homemade breakfast with fresh local pancakes, bananas, and honey, savoring the quiet beauty that surrounds Thac Ba Lake.
After heartfelt farewells to your warm-hearted Dao hosts, we begin our ride back toward Hanoi. We take small, winding roads through palm forests and stilt house villages, letting you enjoy the unhurried beauty of rural life. As we descend from the misty highlands into the Red River Delta, the landscape gradually shifts, blending lush rice paddies and village scenes with the growing hum of urban life.
We’ll stop for lunch in Viet Tri, giving you one last taste of local flavors before the final stretch. We carefully plan this day to avoid the worst of Hanoi’s notorious traffic, ensuring you arrive back in the city around 4:00 PM, just before rush hour.
As we pull into the city, you’ll feel the bittersweet rush of completing an adventure filled with epic passes, vibrant hill tribe encounters, and hidden trails that only a dirtbike journey through Northwest Vietnam can deliver.
We’ll drop off the bikes at our garage and transfer you to your hotel, giving you time to freshen up and raise a cold beer to celebrate the end of an unforgettable ride.
