Day 1: Hanoi – Vu Linh (Thac Ba Lake)
Your motorbike adventure begins with a safety briefing and an overview of riding rules in Vietnam. The guide will also demonstrate hand signals and body language used during the tour to maintain a safe and organized ride.
After rush hour, we leave Hanoi, heading northwest. The first part of the ride takes us through the outskirts of the city and smaller urban areas, allowing you to become comfortable with the traffic flow and riding conditions in Vietnam.
Around midday, we arrive in Viet Tri for lunch at a local restaurant, taking a break before we continue into more scenic areas in the afternoon.
In the second part of the ride, we leave the busy roads behind and head into the rural countryside, passing through green tea plantations and small villages on quieter streets. Whenever possible, we take detours onto light off-road sections or village tracks to add some variety to the ride.
By late afternoon, we reach Vu Linh village on the shores of Thac Ba Lake, Vietnam’s largest artificial lake. If the weather allows, we can take a short boat ride to swim or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the lake.
We spend the night with a Dao family at a traditional homestay, where you will enjoy a home-cooked dinner and have the chance to learn about the local culture while resting up for the next day’s ride.

After breakfast, we say goodbye to our Dao hosts in Vu Linh and begin the day’s ride toward Ba Be Lake. The morning route takes us along quiet roads, passing green tea hills and small villages, with opportunities to ride on light off-road tracks and countryside trails when conditions allow.
We continue through sections of old-growth forest, crossing small streams and riding past traditional stilt houses in ethnic minority villages, offering a glimpse of northern Vietnam’s daily life away from main roads.
Around midday, we stop for lunch in Cho Chu town, a small local town that offers a chance to rest and refuel before the next stretch of the journey.
In the afternoon, we ride along winding roads toward Ba Be, enjoying the mountain scenery and peaceful rural landscapes. As we get closer, the limestone hills and rivers prepare us for the arrival at Ba Be Lake, Vietnam’s largest natural freshwater lake.
Once we reach the village inside Ba Be National Park, we leave the bikes behind and take a relaxing 1.5-hour boat trip on the lake, allowing you to appreciate the clear water, limestone cliffs, and surrounding jungle from a different perspective.
We spend the night in a Tay family’s stilt house, located near the lake’s edge, where you will enjoy a home-cooked dinner and experience the calm, welcoming atmosphere of the village before the next day’s ride.

We follow sections of the historic Colonial Road 4, which cuts through mountain passes with panoramic views, making the ride both enjoyable and engaging without being overly technical. This route is significant in Vietnam’s history, having been the site of several important battles during the French colonial period.
Along the way, we take breaks to stretch and enjoy the mountain air before continuing toward Lang Son, arriving around midday. After checking in at your hotel and having lunch, you will have time to explore the city.
In the afternoon, you can visit the Dong Kinh Market, known for its variety of goods from electronics to textiles at local prices, or take a short ride to see the nearby Tam Thanh and Nhi Thanh caves.
