After a rejuvenated day in Phong Nha, we embark on a the route through the dense, unspoiled jungles along the western side of the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail. This day is a bit of a bumpy section of Highway 14 toward Kon Tum - a province on Central Highland of Vietnam - that is the home of many ethnics with unique culture feature. On the way, you may meet many man-made lakes for hydroelectric plants, rubber trees, cashew, and black pepper plants. We also pass one of the key point where three cultures and countries intersect. We continue riding to Buon Ma Thuot through the cloudy city of Pleiku, where we won’t be able to ignore the “Eyes of Pleiku” - Ho Day. Then we continue on the intrepid off-road to Ham Ring mountain, which is the roof of Pleiku and features a long-dormant volcano and a magnificent landscape of bright flowers and verdant pine trees. As the day comes to an end, we arrive in Buon Ma Thuot and proceed to check in at a hotel.

In the morning, we enjoy the best coffee in Vietnam at the Buon Ma Thuot city. We then make our way along the Phoenix pass (massively affected by Agent Orange during the war). We skirt along the coastal road to reach to Vinh Long where you get some great photos of the fishermen’s daily life and the colorful boats anchoring in the port before arrive in Nha Trang. Motorcycle down on road 20, we ride to Cat Tien National Park. This forest area used to be the headquarter of Vietnamese army during the war. The park suffered historically during the Vietnam War when it was extensively sprayed with herbicides like the defoliant Agent Orange. To this day these areas have extensive bamboo and grassland cover and trees have not yet grown back.
